Al-ʿUruba, often translated as “Arabism” or “Pan-Arabism,” advocates for the unity and solidarity of the Arab world based on shared language, culture, and history. Conversely, al-Wasl, which translates to “connection” or “link,” can be interpreted in this context as representing regionalism or a focus on individual nation-states within the Arab world and their specific interests and relationships. The tension between these two ideologies has shaped political dynamics and identity formation across the Arab world for decades.
