East Kilbride Football Club
East Kilbride Football Club, often simply known as EKFC, is a Scottish football club based in the town of East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire. Founded in 2010, the club has rapidly ascended through the Scottish football pyramid, becoming a prominent force in the Lowland League.
The club’s formation stemmed from a desire to establish a senior football team that represented the town of East Kilbride, the largest town in Scotland without a senior team. The Kilby, as they are affectionately known, began their journey in the South of Scotland League, quickly proving their mettle by winning the league in their inaugural season.
Progressing to the Lowland League, East Kilbride consistently challenged for the title, demonstrating ambition and a clear vision for progression. Their crowning achievement came in the 2016-17 season when they clinched the Lowland League championship. This victory earned them a place in the promotion play-offs for a coveted spot in League Two, however, they were unsuccessful in securing promotion on this occasion.
Beyond league play, East Kilbride have made headlines with their impressive performances in the Scottish Cup. The club has enjoyed several memorable cup runs, providing exciting moments for their loyal fanbase. These cup ties have not only raised the club’s profile but have also given them the opportunity to compete against teams from higher divisions, showcasing their talent and determination.
The club holds the world record for consecutive wins in senior football, achieving 30 victories in a row during the 2016-17 season. This remarkable feat surpassed the previous record held by Ajax, cementing East Kilbride’s place in football history. The club received a congratulatory letter and a signed shirt from Edwin van der Sar, Ajax’s chief executive and former goalkeeper.
East Kilbride play their home matches at the K-Park Training Academy, a modern facility that provides a good environment for both players and fans. The club has cultivated a strong community presence, fostering a sense of belonging amongst its supporters. Local businesses and residents actively support the team, creating a vibrant atmosphere at matches.
Looking to the future, East Kilbride FC remains committed to its ambition of achieving Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) status. The club continues to invest in its infrastructure and player development, striving to build a sustainable and successful football club that the town of East Kilbride can be proud of.
